Today is September 12 and Bill and I are sitting in the harbor of Rock Hall, MD. It is a beautiful small town on Chesapeake Bay. It has been a cloudy, rainy day and we decided to spend the day before we move onto on next location on the Chesapeake - Annapolis.

We survived Hannah. It ended up being a rain event of about 2 inches and some wind of about 30 mph. We had no issues. The next day was beautiful.

The Lady
There are some many wonderful sights and experiences of our travels down the Hudson and through NYC to Cape May, but going by the beautiful lady on our boat was one of the best.

The Hudson

We left the Troy Locks and entered the Hudson River. From the moment we entered the Hudson, it was beautiful. It was a beautiful day to cruise, so we decided to cruise to Catskill, NY. Along the way we passed Troy, Albany (capital of NY), and Athens. Along the way, we saw beautiful homes of old and new heritages, interesting vessels, and lighthouses.

Catskill is a lovely, old town that is now starting to make a recovery. People from NYC are now returning and starting to re energize the community. We stayed there for 3 nights. We visited the town, swam in the pool, and took Bill to the Urgent Carer Clinic for a bad cold. It was a great visit and very refreshing. They have a lot of art galleries and an annual fund raising activity on artistic cat sculptures that raise funds for the community.

After we left Catskill, we headed on the Hudson to the city of Kingston. The trip on the Hudson was again beautiful. Kingston was the first capital of NY and where the participation in the Revolution was approved. In addition, there was easy access to many homes of the old school rich and famous - Roosevelt's, Vanderbilt's, etc... We toured Kingston, the Maritime Museum, Vanderbilt's, FDR's, and the Culinary Institute.

It was a beautiful day when we left Kingston and continued on our down the Hudson. Mansions (old and new), eagles, and beautiful landscape were ahead of us as we passed West Point and entered Tarrytown (Sleepy Hallow) Harbor.

New York City

The next morning we awoke to cloudy skies and potential of rain as we left Tarrytown and headed down the Palisades to New York City. The skies started to clear as we hit Manhattan and Lady. Our goal was to reach Staten Island and the Great Kills Yacht Club. We spent 3 days at Great Kills and could easily tour NYC from their site. Great Kills was one on the friendliest places we stayed. Everyone there made you feel welcomed and part of their family. We picked up a express bus about a block from the harbor and headed to NYC for the day. We left Bill there with Bailey.

New York....New York... "It's so good we had to say it twice..."

We walked, we toured(downtown, uptown, Manhattan, Central Park) and we ate (street vendors, Deli, Cheesecake...etc) .... What a great day...

To the Atlantic

Then we left Great Kill and headed out to the Atlantic Ocean on Labor Day. It was again another beautiful day to travel and the seas were fairly calm, however there was a lot of traffic and people enjoying their last beautiful weekend before school starts. We traveled about 50 miles and entered the New Jersey Intercosatal at Baranget Inlet. Entering the Inlet was a challenge. Lots of waves, surf, tide, shallows, and lots of big boats passing us in both directions. After we go in, the challenge was negotiating and followine the buoys through shallow, narrow passages. We traveled down the Intercoastal to Beach Haven, where we spent the night.

At Beach Haven, Dorothy and George meet friends. We went to their house for dinner. The next morning, George and Dorthy left the Osprey to spend some time with their other friends and then get a rental car to head for Seneca Falls and their car.

New Jersey
We continued down the intercoastal to Altantic City and then to Cape May.

The next update will be about the Cheaspeake....
